Courtney Anne Berlin, associate at Clifford Law Offices, practices in all areas of personal injury and medical malpractice. Courtney has always had a passion for helping others and is dedicated to learning her client’s goals and concerns, using a compassionate approach to achieve justice for those harmed by negligence.
Admitted to practice in 2023, Courtney has already been sent out to trial 6 times. Each of these cases involved complex medical malpractice actions.
In June 2024, Courtney tried a case with firm partner Keith A. Hebeisen in Cook County that resulted in a $6.3 million verdict on behalf of a 56-year-old man who required a heart transplant as a result of an undiagnosed heart condition.
In April 2024, Courtney was part of the team that obtained a $15.1 million settlement on behalf of a minor who sustained neurological injuries, and in March 2024, Courtney was part of the team that obtained a $32 million settlement for a 52-year-old completely disabled adult, who now lives in a 24-hour attendant care center due to a severe and incontrovertible brain injury which she sustained following the failure to treat her apparent symptoms. Additionally, Courtney was part of the team that obtained a $6 million settlement in an ophthalmology medical malpractice case in February 2024.
In November 2023, Keith A. Hebeisen and Sarah F. King, partners at Clifford Law Offices, along with associate Courtney A. Berlin obtained a $8 million medical malpractice settlement on behalf of a 60-year-old man who underwent multiple surgeries to treat complications of necrotizing pancreatitis caused by the negligence of a surgeon failing to shrink a tumor before abdominal surgery.
In October 2023, Courtney worked alongside Clifford Law partners Bradley M. Cosgrove and Patrick F. Bradley to obtain an $11 million settlement in another medical malpractice case. Courtney has also worked on motions involving the 2019 crash of a Boeing jet that founder and senior partner Robert A. Clifford is Lead Counsel in federal district court.
Courtney graduated from DePaul University College of Law. She was a member of the Jaharis Health Law Institute throughout law school and served on the DePaul Journal of Health Care Law and as the Authorities Editor for the 2022-2023 DePaul Journal of Health Care Law.
She is a current member of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association Chicago Bar Association, American Bar Association, and the Women’s Bar Association of Illinois. Courtney serves on the Illinois State Bar Association Torts and Young Lawyers committee and is actively involved in the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association Young Lawyers committee.
Courtney initially joined the firm as a law clerk prior to her admission to the Illinois Bar. Her previous work experience includes interning at an Illinois State’s Attorneys’ office as well as various defense litigation firms.
